Reiki is an ancient natural therapy. It is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing and spiritual growth. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – REI which means universal, with no limits and it also represents the unity of all things. KI which means vital energy, the life force energy present in all beings. So Reiki actually means “Universal Life Force Energy”.
When our life force energy is low, we are more likely to get sick, feel stressed or be run down. On the contrary, when our life force energy level is high, we are healthier and more capable to feel happy. In a standard Reiki treatment, energy flows from the practitioner’s hands to the recipient and it works on 3 levels, physical, mental/emotional and spiritual levels.
During the treatment, the practitioner’s hands are placed and held on a series of locations on the head, torso, legs and feet. This healing method requires minimal physical contact. The recipient lies down and relaxes while the practitioner channels the energy. The experience of Reiki is very subjective and varies from person to person. You may feel heat coming from the practitioner’s hands, and sometimes you may feel a refreshing cool sensation.
